For the DC00439 Brunswick County NC-133 Widening project, Chatham Civil Contracting, LLC worked closely with the NCDOT, Division 3 to construct, enhance and complete a .24-mile stretch of NC -133 in the town of Belville, NC.
This project consisted of removing existing culvert piping and installing a cast-in-place, double-barrel box culvert, while raising Old River Rd approximately 3 feet to alleviate flooding. Although constructing this box culvert had its challenges, including the work area flooding every time it rained or there was a king tide, Chatham Civil Contracting, LLC was able to overcome these obstacles and complete this portion of the project within the allotted ICT.
Additionally, the existing storm drainage conveyance system under NC-133 was replaced and upsized in phases to minimize the disruption of traffic. Water and sewer lines were also relocated and/or replaced on this project to allow for new drainage structures and culverts to be installed.
Widening of NC-133 was essential to eliminate congestion, along with supporting future growth of the community. Once the widening of NC 133 was complete, and new curb & gutter had been installed to direct water into the new drainage structures, Chatham Civil Contracting, LLC was able to proceed with building the multi-use path for the community to safely enjoy.
Lastly, the finishing touches were placed by performing pavement markings and signal modification at the intersection of Blackwell Rd & NC-133.
